Welcome to the 1910 House Bed & Breakfast, Scotch Plains, New Jersey's first Bed & Breakfast. We are your perfect lodging choice and an alternative to hotels, whether for business or personal reasons.
The 1910 House is within walking distance to the many shops, restaurants, and services in the Towne Centre. This makes it the perfect place to finish off your celebration held at one of the local wedding and event locations, including the Italian American Club two doors away, Snuffy's Pantagis Renaissance one block away, or the Stage House Restaurant & Bar at the entrance to the Towne Centre.
At The 1910 House Bed & Breakfast, you can have an elegant, romantic,
and economical wedding that will be remembered forever!
If business brings you to the area, Connell Corporate Park in Berkeley Heights is just slightly over 1 mile from the 1910 House. It is only a short drive to the Industrial Parks in Mountainside, Springfield and Union, the Fortune 500 companies in New Providence, and many others in the surrounding communities of Fanwood, Westfield, and The Plainfield's, to name a few. Our location also affords convenient access to bus and train transportation to New York City, US Route 22, as well as being within 20 minutes of the Newark International Airport, NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, US 78 and US 80.
The 1910 House Bed & Breakfast is a circa 1910 Queen Anne style Folk Victorian home. These were homes typically built by middle class Americans who wanted to emulate the style of the wealthy. The guests who stay here are offered the warmth and atmosphere only found in the by-gone days of the Edwardian Era. Start your day with a sumptuous breakfast served in the elegant dining room featuring a bay windowed wall, dressed in Scottish Lace curtains. Enjoy a hearty country breakfast surrounded by period antique pieces dating back to 1850. On weekends, a candlelit gourmet breakfast is served.
When you return to the inn in the afternoon, you will be treated to an afternoon tea with an assortment of sweets and tasty treats. In the living room, the several small groupings of seating around a center table afford privacy for even the most intimate of conversations. The pieces are a combination of Eastlake and Rococo Revival. After visiting one of many fine restaurants in the area, you will come back to find cordials and chocolates waiting in the Parlor. Sit in the Renaissance Revival sofa and enjoy, all while listening to soft evening music before heading up to one of three meticulously appointed guest rooms.
While the inn is fully furnished with period antiques, the addition of modern amenities makes your stay a most pleasant one. Wireless DSL internet access is available in all areas of The 1910 House Bed & Breakfast and each room is equipped with a TV and Air Conditioner. The innkeepers, Michael and Kathleen, live on-site (below stairs) and are dedicated to making your stay the best it can be. The resident doggies, Lucky, Daisy, and Cobie, also live strictly in the private quarters and are not permitted to interact with the guests. While we love dogs, guest pets are not allowed at the inn.
The park-like setting of the Prospect Avenue side of the Inn provides a refreshing break from the modern day rush. Sit on the park bench under shade of the Sugar Maple tree with the sound of the fountain nearby or, if you wish, enjoy the conversation area with its glider and companion chair. One of the most tranquil settings on the grounds is the garden-like Gazebo area. Nestled between a beautiful Cherry Tree in front and a Flowering Plum Tree to the rear, the Gazebo is the perfect place to enjoy an evening bottle of wine with that special someone. The central focal point of the Gazebo's surrounding landscape is a pond stocked with beautiful multi-colored fish. The sound of the trickling waterfall makes this a great way to savor that morning coffee. During the warmer months, the patio might be used for breakfast on the weekends, weather permitting. Separate seating for either two or four as well as a glider and conversation grouping makes this area a favorite. The white cast iron style furniture, the Victorian lamppost, the turtledove fountain, and the umbrellas create an atmosphere reminiscent of an early 1900's ice cream parlor.
