Introduction
Hebron, New Hampshire is home to 459 year-round residents and it's the quintessential New England village with historic homes and town buildings surrounding a gorgeous common. Just yards from the common and nearly entirely surrounded by Audubon wildlife sanctuary is the circa 1820 Meadow Wind farm, once a working farm and now a small bed and breakfast.
The house has been recently winterized and restored by your hosts, Karen Stetson and Pete Carey, using historic colors and retaining vintage wall coverings, plaster and beadboard walls, and wood beamed and tin ceilings. Period furniture provides the flavor of yesteryear and comfort of a simpler time. Coffee's always brewing in the country kitchen with its ancient and huge soapstone sink beneath windows overlooking the long meadow to the Cockermouth River and wooded mountains beyond.
Breakfast
A buffet country breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the kitchen and can be eaten with other guests in the formal dining room or on one of the farm's three porches.
The spacious veranda overlooks gardens, fields, and woods which host an array of wildlife, both furry and four-legged and avian. In the stillness of dawn or dusk, you'll spy the occasional moose or deer; after dark, you may shiver at the cry of a fisher cat or wake to the song of the loons.
Accommodations
In all, there are six guest bedrooms, all but one named after mountains around Hebron and Newfound Lake. Meadow Wind's three upstairs bedrooms and their two adjoining bathrooms boast breathtaking views of Hebron common, its quintessentially New England church, town offices, and homes, as well as views of the meadow, forests, and White Mountains foothills beyond. The newly winterized ell includes two cozy downstairs guest rooms (former servants' quarters) and the second story Loft now transformed into a beautiful, spacious apartment with bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room with gorgeous northern and southern views. Rates are from $75-$200 per night.
