Introduction
Portsmouth's first B&B, and a hidden gem in downtown, has been welcoming guests since 1978. We look forward to hosting your visit to this wonderful town.
New Hampshire Lt. Gov. George Vaughn sold the land on which The Martin Hill Inn Bed and Breakfast is situated to the Martin family in 1710 for 50 British pounds. Over the years, this area of Portsmouth became known as Martin Hill.

The Martin Hill Inn Bed and Breakfast consists of two period buildings.
The Main House of Martin Hill Inn Bed and Breakfast, circa, 1815, contains three guest rooms furnished with period furniture including queen-size canopy or four-poster beds.
The Guest House at Martin Hill Inn, circa 1850, contains four rooms with queen-size canopy, spindle, or iron and brass beds, and is connected to the Main House of Martin Hill Inn by a short, flower-lined, brick path and patio with a lush water garden.
A full gourmet breakfast is served in our elegant dining room. Seasonal specialties may include buttermilk pancakes with wild Maine blueberries and toasted pecans garnished with strawberries or pomegranate seeds and served with Canadian bacon and pure New Hampshire maple syrup. Another favorite is our own Belgian waffle topped with Golden Delicious apples warmed in a sauce that includes cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, lemon and walnuts. Fresh whipped cream and hand-grated nutmeg provides the finishing touch.
