Introduction

Ther Curriers House - Jaffrey Center, New Hampshire
Good ol' New England traditional style!

Built in 1810 as part of John Cutter's tannery, The Currier's House is now a comfortable Bed & Breakfast in the Jaffrey Center Historic District.

Easy walks lead into the woods, to ponds or down Main Street to The Meeting House on the Common .…" raised the day of Bunker Hill, April 21, 1775".

The Old Burying Ground holds early settlers and notables including 18th century church member and self freed slave Amos Fortune, and his wife, Violette, 19th century bandbox manufacturer, Hannah Davis, and beloved 20th century novelist, Willa Cather. A walking tour of the district and its three museums can be arranged.

Climb Mt. Monadnock 14 different ways … only 10 minutes to the trails! Monadnock is... Mountain View ... "the one who stands alone" but the mountain is not lonely. It's the most climbed mountain in the world.

Ralph Waldo Emerson climbed the mountain in May, 1845 and was inspired to write the poem "Monadoc." Henry David Thoreau climbed the mountain several times from 1843 onwards. You can climb to his 1860 campsite today. The Old Toll Road leads you on an easy walk up to the site of the Half-Way House, first built in 1866. It burned and was rebuilt several times but remained open to guests into the 1930s. Now it's a nice rest stop before your next scramble to the top.
