Working Ranch Tour
Want to see what it takes to run a working cattle ranch in the Wildcat Hills of Western Nebraska? The Flying Bee Ranch is the place to be. It's located near the historic Oregon Trail and Chimney Rock. Start the day by helping us feed the horses, chickens, cats, dog and maybe bottle-feed an orphan or twin calf. Then ride with us in our RTV or pickup for 3-4 hours, as we're off to the pastures to check the cows and calves. Get up close to a baby calf nursing its mama. Watch the calves romp and play just like little children. Have your picture taken with our oxen, Toughy, and feed him right out of your hand. Traveling through our ranch you'll experience the wide-open spaces of our rolling short grass prairie as well as the steep rugged pine-dotted bluffs of the Wildcat Hills. Some real spectacular scenery! Learn the details of our cow/calf operation and what it takes to maintain our livestock and work with Mother Nature. Hear the history of the ranch from the homestead days to the present and walk away with a new appreciation for the beef on your table. Limited to 4 adults or a family of 5.
Trail Riding
Confined to riding down the road or in the arena? Give yourself and your horse a memorable treat. Come ride or hike with us in western Nebraska's scenic Wildcat Hills! Ride beautiful trails that meander through rugged bluffs and deep canyons. The wind in the pines and the scent in the air will remind you of the Rockies. You'll ride or hike within sight of Big Horn Sheep, deer, antelope, turkey, pheasant, rabbit, coyote, eagle and many more of nature's choice wildlife. You'll cover terrain dotted with natural springs, fragrant evergreens, unusual rock formations, and panoramic views that stretch for miles.
Bird & Wildlife Viewing
Looking for an opportunity to view birds native to mixed grass prairies? Do you want to see graceful raptors riding the air currents among rugged ridges of eroded sandstone? Spot a coyote running across the prairie or catch a mule deer sprinting up the side of a steep bluff? Catch a glimpse of a Lark Bunting sitting on the fence or a flock of Red-winged Blackbirds flying from tree to tree. A Western Meadowlark may be just outside your door serenading. You can set up your telescope and view many diverse habitats and their wildlife right from the comfort of the deck. Go hiking, biking or even bring your own horse to discover the diverse selection of birds and other wildlife on our 3,300-acre working cattle ranch.
Wagon Rides
Come join us for a wagon ride and ranch tour on the Flying Bee Ranch located 4 1/2 miles south of McGrew, Nebraska right in the Wildcat Hills. It's your opportunity to see short grass prairie land, pine-dotted bluffs, deep canyons, eagle nests, and our mama cows with their babies. You might even get a glimpse of our diverse wildlife, which includes coyotes, golden eagles, raptors, prairie birds, mule deer, antelope, turkey, and the big horn sheep recently reintroduced in the Wildcats. We can accommodate as many as 25 adults on our wagon at one time. Our 656 Farmall tractor pulls the wagon throughout the ranch for your narrated tour. Schedule a lunch, dinner, wiener roast (weather conditions permitting) or desert before or after your ride.
