Jamestown is the county seat of Stutsman County in North Dakota and is home to some of the area's most inviting B&Bs. If visiting Jamestown in January, it is possible to partake in the annual Buffalo Hunt. Don't worry -- no actual animals are harmed in the hunt. One of the town's artists creates miniature buffalo and hides the charms around all the city parks. It's up to the citizens and visitors to "hunt" down the charms. For the person who finds the white buffalo, a prize can be redeemed. This is a great family event. If visitors are feeling a little more adventurous, there are numerous geo-caches in Jamestown and throughout Stutsman County. Geo-caching is a fun treasure hunt that requires use of a hand held GPS; geo-cachers simply plug in coordinates and follow the clues to find the "treasure." Be prepared as geo-cachers can end up driving through rugged back country and hiking long distances. After a long day treasure-hunting for geo-caches, you'll definitely be ready to kick back and relax in your room at a nearby Jamestown bed and breakfast or Jamestown inn. Equestrians find a happy home in Jamestown at Pipestem Horse Camp; it is located on the northern edge of Pipestem Lake. With 4.5 miles of trails, trailer parker, tether lines, and beautiful views of the waterline, it is the perfect spot to take in the country from horseback and still comfortable enough to stay overnight! Stock Car races are held every Saturday from May until August at the Stutsman County Fairground. Gates open at 4:15 PM and draw cut off is at 6:15 PM every Saturday. In downtown Jamestown is the Buffalo City Grille which offers fine dining, western style - meaning you can enjoy buffalo burgers, walleye with sweet potato chips, or Cajun chicken pasta. Depot Cafe is the "greasy spoon" minus the grease. With breakfast all day, this might be just the ticket after a long day on one of the many trails in the area.
