Windsor is located in northeastern North Carolina between the Roanoke and Chowan Rivers, and it boasts many warm and inviting B&B establishments. The Historic Windsor Walking Tour is an enjoyable step back through history with beautiful architecturally detailed homes. Four miles northwest of Windsor is the crown jewel of Bertie County's historic legacy, Hope Plantation, which was built in 1803 by Governor David Stone. The Freeman Hotel is a popular attraction that was built in the 1840's. The hotel contains two rooms built with original tin walls and ceilings. The Sans Souci Ferry is one of the last two-car inland ferries in the state. Guided by a cable stretched across the river, the ride gives visitors a sense of nature at its best. There is always so much going on in this town so if you are planning a visit why not book a room in advance at a Windsor bed and breakfast or a Windsor inn. The Heritage House Restaurant is a local favorite. Seafood enthusiasts will want to come here for the finest seafood. Also, Hammerheads Oyster Bar specializes in seafood, and it is located in downtown Windsor on King Street.
