Introduction
Welcome to The Firehouse Inn!
Located in historic downtown Rutherfordton, the 1925 City Hall and Firehouse has been entirely renovated, and now offers European elegance and urban atmosphere in a friendly, relaxed setting.
"A place where comfort, service and hospitality reside..."
The Firehouse Inn is located in the 1925 City Hall and Fire Department building in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. It is a richly-designed Colonial Revival-style brick building with stone/cast stone enrichments. In the early 1990's, the City Fire Department moved just a couple of blocks away into a larger and more modern facility.
The City occupied the building until 2001 when all city departments moved to a new location on Main Street. At that time, Jill and Scott Calhoun, of Rutherfordton, bought the building. After careful planning and nearly two years of renovations, the Calhouns moved into the "Firehouse" in the fall of 2003. Bob and Sharon Decker purchased the building from the Calhouns in October 2004, finished the renovations of the property, converting it to commercial usage and opened the Firehouse Inn on Thanksgiving weekend 2004.
It has been great fun to host each of the "Fire Chief" families that once lived in the Firehouse and to have many former employees of the City return to reminisce about their years here. It is our pleasure to utilize this wonderful, historic building in a new and refreshing way, creating new history and new stories with special events, special times in this extraordinary place.
David and Lynn Robinson are the resident Innkeepers at The Firehouse Inn. The Robinsons come to Rutherfordton from Sea Island, Georgia, where David was responsible for helping design and implement the butler department at the prestigious Cloister Hotel. Over the years Lynn has managed medical practices and she currently works for a medical management software company based in NC. Prior to the couple's stay in Georgia, David worked as a butler in private service for a family in Blowing Rock, NC and before that they both managed a large Inn in the same town. David is a Director of The International Guild of Professional Butlers and a Vice President of the International Institute of Modern Butlers. Together, they are parents of five children and have two grandchildren.
Rutherfordton offers the peace and quiet of being in the middle of nowhere with the convenience of being in the center of everything. Located in the western foothills of North Carolina, just 70 miles from the Charlotte airport, 45 miles from the Asheville airport and 65 miles from the Greenville/Spartanburg airport.
The Inn is at the corner of N. Washington and First Streets in downtown Rutherfordton, just one block off of State Highway 221.
