Introduction
The Old Reynolds Mansion is one of the very few brick houses predating the Civil War remaining in Asheville and the only one still in a...
... semi-rural setting. The antebellum mansion sits in isolated splendor on a knoll on Reynolds Mountain surrounded by acres of trees.
"Colonel" Daniel Reynolds built his imposing brick home in 1855, where he and his wife, Susan, had ten children: five sons and five daughters. The original farm consisted of 1400 acres and was operated with the aid of the "Colonel's" 15 slaves.
Natt Augustus Reynolds, son of Daniel, did a thorough renovation of the house in the early 1900s, adding a full third story, a kitchen addition and two story verandahs, giving the house a Colonial Revival style. The Reynolds family owned and lived in the house until the early 1970s. Over the years time and weather had taken its toll, but it never lost its charm. We saw it, fell in love with it and purchased it in 1977. In 1981, we started rebuilding, restoring and recapturing it to its former beauty. It now stands straight and proud again and is a fine example of the significant part it has played in the history of Asheville and the Reynolds family.

From the majestic front entry hall, to the verandahs with their breathtaking views of the mountains. From the comfortable high-ceilinged bedrooms filled with antiques and treasures of a bygone era, to the serenity of a moss-covered bench hidden in the pines, the house whispers a warm welcome to all our guests.
In this fast ever-changing world in which we live, it is very comforting to spend a night in a house that exudes a feeling of permanence of generations past and generations to come. We are very proud to have it individually listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Come see a bit of history brought back to life.
