Pilot Mountain is a town in Surry County, in North Carolina, that has many family friendly B&Bs. Pilot Mountain was the inspiration for the fictional town of Mount Pilot on "The Andy Griffith Show" and many people visit it just for that reason. If you come in May, stay at a Pilot Mountain bed and breakfast so you will be close to all the activities of the annual Mayfest. This event has arts, crafts, food and also live music. Later check out the Cruise-In, which features antique cars, hot rods and muscle machines. After a busy day, you can relax at a Pilot Mountain B&B or inn. Then you will be close to the main area attraction, which is Pilot Mountain State Park, with its many hiking trails and wonderful scenery. Another attraction is Hanging Rock State Park, located in nearby Stokes County. When you get hungry, try Mountain View Restaurant, for local fare and friendly chatter, or Sopper's Restaurant for casual, but great, dining, both right in Pilot Mountain.
