Introduction
The newly renovated historic Inn, built in 1889, is located in the charming town of Tryon. The Inn was restored in 1996 to its original grandeur. Each of the 16 guestrooms have been decorated with comfort and relaxation in mind. The spacious common area includes: an 85 seat dining room, bar, lounge, a glassed-in sun porch and a living room with a fireplace. A porch wraps around the front with seating available for rocking and friendly conversation.
The Melrose Inn property main house was originally built in 1889 as a private residence for Dr. Charles Kenworthy. When he passed, his widowed wife ran it as the Kenworthy Boarding House. The right side wing was added in 1925 and then a leftwing in 1935 which completed the Inn as it sits today. The Inn went through a full renovation that was completed in 1998.
We are conveniently located halfway between Greenville/Spartanburg and Asheville. Just 45 minutes from attractions such as The Biltmore House, Lake Lure, and Chimney Rock and just over 1 hour from Charlotte. You'll find us directly across the street from the Fine Arts Center, near downtown Tryon, known for its wine and equestrian events. We are within walking distance of antique shops, art shops, an old-time hardware store, pubs, restaurants, and more.
The Inn has over 12,000 square feet of space including an 85 seat dining room that can accommodate up to 120 with a buffet. It is the perfect place for receptions, reunions, corporate functions, and special events. We have a full service bar and a comfortable TV lounge room.
We truly want to make your stay with us a pleasurable and satisfying one so, if you have a special request, please let us know in advance and we will make sure we have it upon your arrival. We would also like to invite guests staying with us between Wednesday and Friday to join us for dinner in the dining room. All guests receive a free dessert.
Relax on our side deck overlooking the rocked flower and rose garden, or sit and read a book next to the fish pond on a lazy afternoon. Reserve the barbeque pit for your family reunion or summer get together. Although we are a non-smoking Inn, we have reserved the Mr. Lincoln room for smokers. It is located upstairs, complete with air filtration and an upstairs deck, and is the perfect room for playing cards, friendly conversation, or just relaxing and enjoying a drink and good cigar. The entire Inn is equipped with complimentary wi-fi fast speed internet connections.
Come sit in our front parlor or have a drink at the bar. There are a variety of things to do including horseback riding, golfing, hiking to Pearson falls, shopping at nearby antique malls, enjoy the local arts located directly across the street at the Tryon fine arts center, or take a scenic drive to one of the nearby attractions.
