The childhood home of Andy Griffith is the setting for your welcome to the Maxwell House Bed and Breakfast. Located in the All American Small Town of Mt. Airy is Snappy Lunch, Floyds Barber Shop, the Blue Bird Diner, and Wally's Service station, all within an easy walk from the home base of the Maxwell House B&B in the heartbeat of Downtown on MAIN Street. |

Southern hospitality abounds upon your arrival at the Maxwell Bed & Breakfast at the Historic Merritt House. You are greeted by your Hosts, Twyla and Roger, who make you feel right at home and part of their family. Afternoon and evening refreshments are available, either in the open living room or when weather permits, on the wrap-a-round porch. Famous for Opies Lemonade and Chocolate Chip Cookies, you will not be disappointed.
The house is designed with many large rooms, with 10 and 11 foot ceilings, and all with beautiful oak and pine woodwork. All of the rooms are decorated with antiques from the family home place.. Four of these rooms are the large guest rooms that await your arrival. We are a certified Birder Friendly Inn and also are working towards "Green" certification. Be sure to check out our organic gardens also. We strive to be toxic free.
ABC News has featured the Maxwell House in a report on the Yadkin Valley Wine Region, which the Maxwell House B&B is considered one of the premier inns working with the wineries in the area. Also featured in some of the shows for Simple Living with Wanda Urbanska, Roger and Twyla have hosted many of Wanda's featured guests, as well as having appeared in some of the shows themselves.

We feature four guest rooms; all with private bath.
On the registry of the North Carolina Historic Preservation Foundation, the rooms are authentically restored to the era of the construction. Ms. Elizabeth's room is named after the last of the Merritt's who were the original builders of the beautiful 1901 Victorian Home. The Victoria Room is ready for you to get in touch with your feminine side, while the Maxwell Suite is named after the Maxwell family who now owns the B&B. The Country Americana is a salute to the military people in the Maxwell family. Award winning breakfast is usually served between 8 and 9 and before you come down to the elegant dining room, you will be greeted with the wonderful smells of a delightful meal being prepared by Chef Twyla.

Mt. Airy was home to Andy Griffith and Donna Fargo. Mayberry Days are celebrated in September. During the month of October you will want to visit during the Autumn Leaves Festival. Come join us for our fall colors! Other area attractions include: Old Salem, Blue Ridge Parkway, local winery, largest open faced granite quarry in the world, Horne Creek Farm, Reynolda Village, Mabry Mill and Pilot Mountain.
