Introduction
Welcome to the Maxwell House Bed & Breakfast at the Historic Merritt House, a beautiful brick and
granite Victorian home built in 1901.
We are only 30 miles from Winston-Salem, 20 minutes from Pilot
Mtn. State Park and 15 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
A Victorian Experience with Southern Hospitality
Southern hospitality abounds upon your arrival at the Maxwell Bed & Breakfast at the Historic Merritt House. You are greeted by your Hosts, Twyla and Roger, who make you
feel right at home and part of their family. Afternoon and
evening refreshments are always available, either in the dining
room or when weather permits, on the wraparound porch.
The house consists of 12 large rooms, with 10 and 11 foot ceilings, and
all have beautiful oak and pine woodwork. All of the rooms are decorated
with antiques from local shops, family pieces and family
memorabilia.
We feature four guest rooms; all with private bath.
Three of our rooms are named for family members and our fourth and
largest room is Country Haven. Breakfast is usually served at 9 am
and before you come down to the elegant dining
room, you will be greeted with the wonderful smells of breakfast.
From spring thru fall our wraparound porch beckons you to sit
a spell and enjoy the passersby and the feeling of being in another
time and place. Also featured, homemade crafts are for sale on the upstairs landing.
For our business clientele, we offer a 800# and fax for your business
needs. We also offer a business rate and discount to those whose
stay is longer than 5 days.
