... to its original splendor in 1996/1997 by the Wynns to enable their guests to relax and escape to a romantic, elegant and gracious period of history with all of the modern day conveniences.

Built in 1890, the James M. Howard House is located on Pollock Street in the Downtown Historic District of New Bern, North Carolina and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Conveniently located within walking distance of specialty and antique shops, a variety of wonderful restaurants, parks and marinas, art galleries, historic sites such as Tryon Palace, one block from the river front. New Bern Riverfront Convention Center is one block from the Howard House.

Our large sitting parlor offers a cozy fireplace and a comfortable area for our guests to read, converse, play games, enjoy the piano or guitar, listen to soothing music or just relax after a full day of activities around town. A complimentary glass of wine and snack tray of fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers is provided in the parlor 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to tide our guests over to dinner. A guest refrigerator is available on the first floor stocked with juices and sodas to refresh yourself during the day. As the sun sets on this historic town, homemade desserts and coffee are provided in the Parlor and can be enjoyed on the front porch in the swing.

A full Gourmet Breakfast awaits you each morning in the gracious formal dining room at a specified time convenient for our guests. The breakfast menu changes daily and is served on family china and crystal. The affair begins with a fresh fruit appetizer, your choice of juices, fresh ground coffee and teas. A hot egg dish and sweet dish is served each day and may include Bacon Omelet Baskets and Strawberry Stuffed French Toast or Apple Pecan Pancakes.
