Introduction
The Granville Queen Inn, circa 1907, is located at the heart of Edenton, known as “the South’s prettiest small town.” Set right beside the waters of Albemarle Sound, this prosperous port dates back more than two centuries and is proud to have been the first capital of the province of North Carolina. Edenton was also home to many Revolutionary patriots, as well as the haunt of the infamous pirate Blackbeard.
From the moment you step in the door, it will be our pleasure to see that your visit is a memorable escape from the daily routine. Furnishings throughout this large neoclassical manor dating back to 1907 are from Italy, China, Holland, Thailand, and England. Unusual accessories and works of art are everywhere.
Enjoy a luxurious retreat in one of our seven guest chambers appointed in such styles as Renaissance Revival, Louis XVI, Colonial Revival, and Art Deco. Most rooms have fireplaces and private balconies, and all have private baths, cable TV, VCR's, and telephones. Your guest chamber will be lavished with thoughtful touches and furnished in elegant antiques.
Every morning, we offer generous and varied breakfast choices served from 7:30 to 9:00, which you may enjoy in the formal dining room or out on the Victorian Plantation Porch. House specialties include poached pears, frozen amaretto cream baskets filled with mixed berries, crepes, pancakes and waffles, veggie fritters, sausage puffs, potato tortillas, and a tempting variety of egg dishes. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are always available.
There is so much to do here! The Granville Queen Inn is just two blocks from the scenic harbor and its waterfront parks and docks, where you can arrange fishing and sailing trips. Nearby, the Visitors Center offers exhibits and guided walking and trolley tours. For a leisurely day of exploration, you can head for the beaches of the Outer Banks or the nearby historic plantations or visit famous Jockey’s Ridge or the NC Aquarium. If you’re a biker, you’ll find the country roads gentle and scenic. In the evening, there’s musical theatre, as well as the famous Lost Colony outdoor drama, just a short drive away.
Today, the town’s many handsome period homes and historic landmarks recall her rich past. Twice a year, during the Pilgrimage in April and the Christmas Candlelight Tour in December, Edenton invites everyone to come enjoy special house tours and lots of Southern hospitality. At any time of the year, a stroll along the shady streets past handsome period homes and historic landmarks of Edenton is a step back into a more gracious era. Within the Historic District, you’ll also find an irresistible collection of boutiques, antiques shops, and fine restaurants.
Come fill your days with a flurry of fun activities, or simply stay here, unwind, and read a good book on the porch. Whatever your interests, we will be happy to help you plan sightseeing and dining in Edenton and throughout this beautiful and storied corner of North Carolina. We look forward to welcoming you to Edenton and the Granville Queen Inn!
