Introduction
You'll discover our inn down a dusty lane, just slightly off the beaten path. Originally a mountain farmhouse, the Folkestone Inn has been a bed and breakfast inn for the past three decades. Its innkeepers have thoughtfully preserved the warmth and character of the homeplace, where each guest is made to feel like an old friend returning home.
Step into the Folkestone and step back in time.
With its antique furnishings and mountain memorabilia, the inn reminds many visitors of their grandma's house. Casual and cozy, the Folkestone is filled with old-fashioned charm. The inn offers three floors of guest rooms to choose from each with a distinct personality - from upstairs rooms with private balconies and mountain vistas, to romantic ground floor rooms with flagstone floors and low pressed-tin ceilings.
Each of our 10 comfortably furnished guest rooms has a private bath where you can relax in a antique claw foot tub or enjoy a hot shower before breakfast. All are tastefully decorated with period furnishings and mountain memorabilia and offer independently-controlled central air conditioning.
Bryson City is just 60 miles west of Asheville on US-74 at the southern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nestled in a picturesque valley between the National Park and the Nantahala National Forest, Bryson City is the perfect setting for a mountain getaway - a quiet country town on the banks of a swift mountain river, surrounded by lush forests, rolling pastures and rugged mountain peaks.
Swain County is a recreational paradise. Just a few steps from the Folkestone, there's hiking, waterfalls, trout fishing and horseback riding at Deep Creek (pictured) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There's mountain biking on the famous Tsali trails, fishing on Fontana Lake, sightseeing on the Great Smoky Mountains Scenic Railroad and whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River just 25 minutes from the Folkestone.
At the Folkestone Inn, you'll find parlors and porches to gather with other guests. You'll find privacy for reading - or writing - your book. And before you know it, you'll find that carefree Smoky Mountain state of mind.
