A Typical Stay

The Chalet Inn When you arrive at The Chalet Inn - totally private on our 22 mountain acres, yet only two minutes from the main four lane highway to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park - you will feel embraced by nature. As you get out of your car, you'll note the brook that starts from springs in the mountainside and curls around The Chalet then over a waterfall into a pond on its way to the valley floor. As you enter the Great Room with its large fireplace and comfortable furniture, which beckons you to sit and relax, you'll enjoy the view of Doubletop Mountain standing dominate behind 19 miles of ridge after ridge of lush forested mountains.

As you are shown to your room with its clean modern bath and large private balcony, you'll note the special attention George and Hanneke paid to designing and maintaining The Chalet Inn: each room's balcony is offset from the others for privacy, and the Inn consistently receives the highest ratings from the Health Department.

Unwind after your trip by stretching your legs on one of our hiking trails or simply rock on your private patio or flower-bedecked balcony. As evening approaches, relax by the waterfall and pond and enjoy the trout as they leap to feed. After making a selection from the menus George and Hanneke keep on hand, enjoy an evening meal at one of the many restaurants - varying from traditional country to fine dining - within 8-20 minutes. On your return, enjoy the view of The Chalet basked in soft light. A Beautiful View

Hiking Choose any of the love seats scattered around the grounds and watch the moon rise, wander five minutes up the ridge and watch a sunset over Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, or if it is a brisk evening, cozy up to the large fireplace in the Great Room with a book from our library. Simply make yourself at home: play cards or a game at the library table or retreat to your Room or Suite. As you fall asleep you may enjoy either the fresh air and listen to the brook, or, if you prefer, enjoy air-conditioning: a unique system that is centralized (no noise in the room) but each room/suite has individual controls.

Next morning watch a sunrise over the Blue Ridge Parkway from our front yard, and then enjoy a hearty breakfast by candlelight at your private table in the dining room or on the covered patio by the brook. For a change of pace: sleep in and enjoy breakfast in your room or suite. After breakfast there is nothing you have to do, and everything you can do.

Stay at The Chalet and relax, stroll our forested mountainsides and ridges with trails, perhaps find your own private spot on a mountainside, with a hammock for two, to share the quiet and enjoy a bottle of wine and cheese. Then challenge your traveling companion to a lawn game (badminton, croquet, horseshoes, tether-ball or bocci ball) or a board game (chess, checkers, or backgammon) on the front porch. Lawn Games

Or explore the area and its many adventures:

For the adventurous challenges abound. Some of the best white water rafting, mountain biking and hiking are close by.

For those who want their adventures in milder doses, there are drives along mountain roads with stops to view waterfalls, antique shops to poke around, local crafters to visit, quaint towns to stroll and shop, and a railway to ride.

For the sportsperson there is golfing, fishing and horseback riding.

Dinner At the end of the day bring that trout you caught or the steak you picked up back to the Inn and grill out in our picnic area. If you want a taste of Germany ask George to show you how to grill some German Wurst that we have on hand, and Hanneke will provide you with all the fixin's. Or choose a nearby restaurant from our portfolio of menus to enjoy.

When you return from your evening meal or finish your picnic, you will find the Inn inviting, softly lit and starting to feel like home away from home. So relax, unwind, & enjoy; for tomorrow is another day!
