The Buttonwood Inn, a small bed and breakfast, is decorated in a delightful country-home motif, featuring antiques, handmade-family quilts, collectibles, and even country crafts. The Inn is adjacent to the Franklin Golf Course, a public course open year round. The Smoky Mountains, Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail are nearby. At an altitude of 2,450 feet, Franklin is completely surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges.

The original residence was a small cottage built in the late 1920's between the 5th and 7th greens of the golf course. The two-story inn has a white pine tung and groove interior and batten board exterior. A new wing was added in the late 1950's which retained the same rustic charm and now accommodates some of the Inn's guests.

What separates Buttonwood Inn from most inns is its friendly, personal atmosphere and service -- and most notably, the breakfasts. A breakfast is served each morning, at 8:30, and this isn't a continental breakfast. The innkeeper, Liz Oehser, is the cook, too, and having been in business since 1984, she has perfected irresistible breakfasts ranging from country cooking to gourmet. Included are such treats as puffy scrambled eggs, egg souffles, eggs benedict, apple sausage rings, baked peaches and sausage, poached pears, baked bananas, cinnamon apples, stuffed french toast, homemade biscuits, coffee cakes, a variety of homemade breads and muffins, and scones served with lemon butter. If you're lucky, you'll be there on the mornings when she prepares her specialty, Dutch Babies.

Completely surrounded by tall pines the Buttonwood, small and cozy, will appeal to those who prefer country simplicity and natural rustic beauty. Dogwood and rhododendron bloom abundantly during the spring and fall foliage is spectacular. A deck, with rocking chairs overlooks the spacious lawn and a view of the mountains is enjoyed by the guests.

Franklin, the county seat of Macon County, offers the incomparable beauty of a small mountain community. Nearby you may enjoy gem mining, white water rafting, horseback riding, hiking, craft shops and restaurants.
