A History of Beaufort House
Historically named 'Beaufort Lodge', Beaufort House stands today as a living memorial to one of the great men of Western North Carolina, Theodore Fulton Davidson.
A renowned lawyer and state Senator, Davidson served as Attorney General for North Carolina for two terms. He became Mayor of Asheville in 1895 and built Beaufort House for his new bride.
The Beaufort House is also a tribute to the architect A.L. Melton who built the Drhumor building and the Sondley building in Asheville, the former is considered the finest example of Romanesque Revival in Western North Carolina.
