Lorman, Mississippi Bed & Breakfast: Located on Hwy 552, this working plantation features a handsome 14-room Greek Revival-style mansion on 100 acres with an adjoining Christmas tree plantation. The mansion is the only surviving building designed and built by David Schroder, the architect of Windsor. Rosswood, built in 1857, has been completely restored and furnished with outstanding antiques and unusual collections of items from around the world.

Rosswood Plantation Bed and Breakfast

 Rosswood was a thriving cotton plantation of 1250 acres, long before the Civil War, with 105 slaves working the fields. It now has 100 acres of rolling fields and stately trees, where deer and other wildlife abound.

The Rosswood Mansion is a classic Greek revival home of 14 rooms, with 14 foot ceilings, 10 fireplaces, columned galleries, a winding stairway, and original slave quarters. Completely restored and furnished with beautiful antiques and unusual items collected around the world, it has been home since 1975 for Colonel Walt Hylander and his wife Jean, who share its heritage and their treasures with their guests. It has been named a Mississippi Landmark tourist attraction, the "Prettiest Place in the Country" and featured on the Travel Channel.

Rosswood Plantation received the AAA three diamond rating.

Guests enjoy wake-up coffee served in the room, a full plantation breakfast, a guided tour of the home and are welcome to use the swimming pool and spa (Jacuzzi). There is a stocked lake on the estate and some nature trails through the forests. The library contains a fascinating collection of diaries, ledgers and other documents that vividly portray plantation life, a Civil War battle when the mansion was shelled and then used as a hospital, and freeing of slaves before and during the war.

Rosswood's four guestrooms are upstairs with canopied beds, Oriental rugs and antique furnishings. Each room has a private bath, fireplace, satellite TV and VCR/DVD.

  • All rates are for single or double occupancy.
  • Extra person, $35 each.
  • No smoking, no pets.
  • Children welcome.
  • Handicapped-accessible for tours, but bedrooms are not.
  • Deposit of one night's lodging is required.
  • Reservations not used and not cancelled five days prior to arrival may result in loss of deposit.
  • Check-in: 2 P.M. to 5 P.M.; check-out:11 A.M.
  • Open March through December only.
