Belle of the Bends is a stunning example of Victorian Italianate architecture built in 1876 by Mississippi State Senator Murray Smith and his wife Kate. One of the best-preserved mansions of its type in the state, it is listed as a Vicksburg Historic Landmark and is located in the Historic Garden District. The home is named for a famous steamboat used by President Teddy Roosevelt on a visit to Vicksburg. |

Stroll through our gardens where you will see a century-old towering pecan tree, a Crepe Myrtle tree approaching one hundred and sixty years, a magnificent Gingko Tree that was started from seed imported from Manchuria, and many flowers and statuaries. Our first and second floor verandahs invite you to glimpse at the rivers and ponder what life on the Mississippi River was like in 1876. Belle of the Bends is the perfect location for your special event such as weddings, family reunions, bridal showers, baby showers, luncheons, teas, or any special occasion. There are many attractions to visit while you are in Vicksburg. You won't want to miss the Vicksburg Military Park with the best-preserved Civil War battlefield in the country, as well as the USS Cairo gunboat and the military cemetery. Other nearby attractions include The Old Courthouse Museum, riverside gambling casinos, riverboat tours, "Gold in the Hills", the worlds longest running melodrama, and the many beautiful and historic homes in Vicksburg available for tours.
