Introduction
Robard's Mansion Bed and Breakfast is an example of classic Italianate architecture, with massive woodwork and interior brick walls, and some wonderful plaster coffered ceilings that have been uncovered and restored. Many of the 9' windows still have the original inside shutters to shut out sun and cold.
~History~
John L. Robards, a lifelong friend of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), a Hannibal attorney, and prominent citizen, built this house for his wife and three children. It has since been known as "The Robards House". It boasts one of only two flying staircases in Hannibal, which circle all the way to the third floor. Massive pocket doors that separate the double parlors still slide smoothly after over 128 years of use. Three marble fireplace mantles still remain, as do some of the original patterned wood floors. One of the first bathrooms in Hannibal was located on the second floor and is restored and functional.
~Accommodations~
Each room has a private bath, and some have refrigerators. Ice and cold drinks are always available in the kitchen on the main floor for the guests. All rooms have either king or queen beds and in-room cable TV and phones. Rooms are spacious with closets. Small weddings, receptions, teas, reunions, showers, etc. can be arranged. The dining room is on the first floor. Coffee is available for the early risers who might want to take a stroll to the river before breakfast.
~Breakfast~
Breakfasts includes a variety of items, and special requests will be honored, if possible. Those staying a number of days will find a different variety each morning. Some items for breakfast include gourmet cinnamon rolls or coffee cake, tea breads, biscuits, fresh fruit and fruit casseroles, quiches, ham, bacon, sausage as well as a variety of juices and regular or decaffeinated coffee or tea.
