Minnesota meets Canada in a land of special beauty. Thick forests of pine and birch spread
across the rolling land hugging a network of sparkling waters. Lakes and rivers flow into
each other along the border, trimming the top of Minnesota like a necklace of blue gems.
This land is home to some of Minnesota’s finest natural treasures - Voyaguers National
Park, the Boundary Waters and Lake of the Woods. In the spring and summer, fishing,
boating and canoeing lure travelers and during the winter, ice fishing, snowmobiling and
dog-sled adventures bring exciting vacations.
Voyaguers National Park is Minnesota’s only national park and is dominated by its 30
lakes. The park is a motorboat paradise. Guided excursion boat tours are a unique way to
explore the park. This easily accessible wilderness offers great fishing and the chance to see
a variety of wildlife - eagles, beaver, otters, moose, bear and wolves.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a unique north woods preserve - the
greatest wilderness canoeing and fishing area in the world. More than a thousand pristine
lakes and streams shimmer in this vast pine-forested, stony-cuffed wilderness bringing
travelers from all over the world. Most of these lakes are "paddle only" and are truly
unspoiled beauty.
Other areas of interest are: International Falls, with a history museum, Boise Cascade paper
plant, and a prehistoric burial mound - Grand Mound; Ely, home to the International Wolf
Center and the Dorothy Molter Museum; The Gunflint Trail, a 63-mile paved highway that
provides easy access to one of the largest wilderness areas in the country; and Lake of the
Woods, which offers 65,000 miles of shoreline, 14,582 islands and some of the finest
walleye, northern pike and muskie fishing in the world.
