4 cored Granny Smith apples Remove a strip around each apple and place in an 8 or 9 inch glass baking dish. Fill each hole with brown suaar and press down to pack. Add a tsp of butter, press down; add a few currants and fine-ground nuts. Add brown sugar to cover opening and sprinkle with spice. Add to dish 1/4-1/3 cup brown suaar (or to taste) and 3 tblsp of butter. Pour in 1/3 cuts each of water and bourbon. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 1 hour or until apples are soft when pierced with a toothpick. Baste every 15 minutes. Serve apples warm in footed dishes with some of the sauce. Pass cream pitcher or whipped cream as desired.
