Introduction
This grand Victorian Italianate house was constructed by the Frankfort Land Company, circa 1860. Built as the first house in Benzie County to conform to the dictates of an architectural style, it marked a clear transition from the isolated frontier settlement to the prosperous Great Lakes port city that followed. The house has remained almost unaltered in appearance over the years. The house has been fully restored with great attention to detail. The Stonewall Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
The Stonewall Inn B&B is located in Frankfort, Michigan at the corner of Fifth Street and Leelanau Avenue.
Frankfort resides in west Benzie County on the golden sandy shores of Lake Michigan, just 30 minutes north of Manistee, and 40 minutes west of Traverse City.
The Inn is uniquely furnished with an extensive Civil war collection and many antiques to return you to the 1860's. Yet, it is quite comfortable with modern conveniences. Each room accommodates two people with ease. The table is set with crystal and china ready for you to linger over a warm breakfast. Relax in the parlor, walk in the garden or visit miles of beaches, delightful parks, or the many shops in downtown Frankfort.
