Area Attractions

Clio
Clio is located near the northern border of Genesee County, in the middle of the junctions of M-57, M-54 and I-75. It functions primarily as an adjunct community to the greater Flint area, with many of its residents commuting to work in Flint. It also has a significant amount of farming, manufacturing and small businesses. Like so many others in Michigan, Clio began as a lumbering town. It started in 1837 when Theodore P. Dean built a sawmill here. The Pere Marquette Railroad in 1861 built the Varna Station here (so named because it was on the Varna family farm). It was renamed Clio by the first postmaster, David Huyck in 1866. It was incorporated as a village in 1873 and later as a city in 1928. Clio offers quaint downtown shops, fine restaurants, miles of bike and walking paths, and the Clio amphitheater. The amphitheater hosts Country Series Concerts, Broadway type shows (by the Clio Cast and Crew), as well as other types of concerts throughout the year.

Frankenmuth
Frankenmuth is Michigan's #1 visitor destination and is known as Michigan's "Little Bavaria". Over 3 million people visit Frankenmuth annually to experience the Bavarian Heritage that attracts these visitors year after year. You will want to visit Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas Store, stroll through the quaint downtown shops and museum. Take a carriage ride through the historical section of town. Dine at the world famous Zehnder's or Bavarian Inn restaurants or golf at the championship golf course. Many types of festivals and activities are held here each week; such as the Christmas candle light walk, Ice Festival (ice carvings and sculptures), Bavarian Festival, antique car show, October Fest, and many, many more.

Birch Run
Michigan's outlet shopping Mecca. Hundreds of Manufacturer's Outlet Stores to serve you. Golf Course and Watermelon Festival.

Flint
Crossroads Village, with more than 30 historic structures, takes you back to a simpler time. Friendly villagers, in period dress, welcome you to homes, mills, and shops. Experience the thrill of riding an authentic 1912 carousel or take a ride on the matching ferris wheel. Go for a train ride on the steam powered Huckleberry Railroad or tour Mott Lake on the Genesee Belle, a full-size paddlewheel riverboat. Flint also offers all the thrills of a big city, the cultural center and a number of Universities.

Chesaning
Historic Chesaning is known as Michigan's Showboat City. Sit in the open air amphitheater, located in the park along the river, and watch big name recording artists and singing groups perform on the showboat. Tour the Victorian style quaint downtown shops (including several antique stores) or take in one of the many festivals held here each year, including a Christmas candle light walk.
