Introduction
The Camden Windward House Bed & Breakfast is located in the heart of the historic district only a block from Camden's scenic harbor and many of its surrounding shops and restaurants.
Camden is often referred to as Maine's "prettiest" seacoast village. Situated where the mountains meet the sea at the heart of beautiful Penobscot Bay, Camden is centrally located midway between Portland and Bar Harbor and is convenient to all mid-coast destinations making it an ideal base for day trips during your vacation.
The Inn is a short distance from the Camden Hills State Park with Mt. Battie's popular hiking trails...
You can walk from the back of the Inn to one of Mt. Battie's most convenient trails leading to the top with its breathtaking panoramic views of sparkling Penobscot Bay, evergreen islands, picturesque harbor villages and even more mountains on the horizon.
After your hike, have lunch at a quaint waterside restaurant, stop for ice cream and stroll through the many unique shops looking for that "just right" gift or maybe that long desired "personal treasure." Or, perhaps your idea of relaxation is just driving around the scenic back roads where each bend may yield a more spectacular view than the one before. (Winter sports include cross-country and downhill skiing, skating, tobogganing, ice fishing and snow shoeing.)
At the day's end, all will find returning to the Windward House will be the perfect way to relax, unwind and prepare to plan your next day's activities.
The Camden Windward House is one of Camden's most intimate and exquisite bed and breakfast Inns...
The house is one of the finest examples of Victorian architecture with Greek Revival features along the mid-coast of Maine. Originally constructed in 1854 by Elijah Glover, a prominent local shipbuilder and lumberman, the house was first opened to guests in 1924 and has been sharing its warmth and charm with travelers ever since. Everything in this century and a half year old stately shipbuilder's home has been lovingly restored to its original graciousness -- including the polished hardwood floors, chair rails and intricate moldings.
The eight beautifully decorated guest rooms all reflect the charm of this historic home. Decorated with antique and reproduction furniture, each guest room has a queen or king bed with private in-room bath and its own distinctive, unique charm.
Some rooms have working gas fireplaces which create a warm comforting glow - perfect to cuddle by or just sit back and relax, perhaps to read, or maybe just to doze. All our rooms are accented with fine linens, beautiful quilts and exquisitely comfortable "allergy-free" featherbeds. Deluxe bath amenities add a crowning touch to your "catered to" experience at the Camden Windward House.
The inn has several common areas for you to relax and enjoy the warm ambiance of our historic home. These include a library, living room and a rear parlor as well as our rear garden area with its views of Mt. Battie.
