On the hill above the river, an historic inn looks out to sea. Portsmouth Harbor Inn & Spa, a lovely Victorian bed-and-breakfast, invites you to step back in time to days of a slower pace. Built in 1879, the inn offers five luxurious rooms, each with private baths, modern amenities, and uniquely furnished with period antiques. Most rooms have waterfront views, and the salt air promises sweet dreams and hearty appetites.

Known as the "Restaurant Capital of New England", Portsmouth has approximately 85 restaurants from which to choose, including three Japanese, three Thai, two Indian and several each of Chinese, Mexican, Italian, French and continental, and of course New England seafood. Also, there is one Irish restaurant. There are coffee houses, sidewalk cafés, ice cream parlors and lobster pounds. Even closer to the Portsmouth Harbor Inn & Spa is the venerable Warren's Lobster House, about one hundred yards from the Inn.
