Norumbega Castle with its regal posture overlooking Penobscot Bay is an architectural masterpiece that exudes luxury and romance to provide an ideal setting for your special day. This stone castle built in 1886, with its opulent paneling, beautiful inlaid floors and magnificent wood carved bookcases, fireplaces and stairways, offers the charm and elegance of a bygone era. Our eleven spacious accommodations and two elegant suites are individually designed and decorated for your comfort and enjoyment with well-appointed fine antiques. Selected by Harper's Bazaar Magazine as one of the top 20 places to host a wedding and reception, Norumbega has been the site chosen for many weddings, ranging in size, for clientele from our location here in Maine to as far away as New York, Texas, Oregon and Japan.

Our large, grand common rooms and our elegant dinning room are a perfect setting for your wedding reception. You may also choose to have your wedding ceremony in the castle or in our gazebo, which is very popular weather permitting. Our spacious grounds are available in the late spring, summer & early fall. The following will give you a general idea of planning information:

  • You may to choose to have a small intimate wedding of 4 to 10 people with a wedding ceremony at Norumbega and a formal dinner in our private dining room. Accommodations are available for the bridal party and guests on an individual basis.
  • For larger groups of up to 65 people with a wedding and reception within the building structure you will be required to rent the whole castle for two consecutive nights on a weekend or one night on a Sunday through Thursday in the off season.
  • For larger groups of up to 150 people you may need a tented set up on our spacious grounds, which may require more than a two day castle rental.
  • It is wise to reserve your wedding date far in advance since the most popular months to have a wedding are popular months for travelers to visit us. Our on site wedding planner is available to help coordinate your event at Norumbega.
  • Norumbega provides elegant food presentations either in a buffet style or a formal sit-down dinner for your guests. Our culinary chef is available for consultation.
  • If you choose to have music at your ceremony and/or reception you may want to select a classical flutist or harpist or a small band. Norumbega works with local florists. We prefer that you contract your wedding flowers, as their work can be relied on to ensure originality, excellence and reasonable prices.
