Introduction

Belfast,
The Architectural Gem
Of The Maine Coast

Exquisitely turreted, columned and gabled, surrounded by bushes and many flowers. The Jeweled Turret Inn was built as a single family home for prominent attorney James S. Harriman and his wife Nell in 1898.

The inn is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is located in the heart of Belfast within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the harbor.

The Jeweled Turret offers four Victorian, antique-filled parlors and a formal oak-paneled Dining Room in which to indulge. Seven luxury guest chambers, each elegantly decorated and named after a precious gem stone. Immerse yourself in private en-suite charming guest baths, featuring the inn's fine English Spa Therapy amenity line. Step back in time with romantic iron and brass and four-poster beds, antiques, rich wallpapers, rugs, lace curtains, and beautiful woodwork throughout. Experience a Victorian columned fireplace, a birds-eye maple bathroom with claw-footed bath tub, a marble bathroom with whirlpool tub, or a huge cannon-ball four-poster bed in a turret room; all this and more awaits you.

Mornings welcome you with early gourmet coffee and teas. Each day brings different delights from fresh fruits, scones and pastries to house specialties such as German pancakes, Sourdough Gingerbread Waffles, or cherry Clafouti. Iced tea and lemonade is waiting to refresh you on the veranda during summer time, while during cooler months tea and hot cocoa will warm you after a long journey. Evening Social Hour is popular, with music, cheese and crackers and Sherry from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M.

Get away from the stress of daily life and indulge yourself in elegant comfort on the coast of Maine at The Jeweled Turret Inn, the "Jewel" of Belfast.

The Victorian Era awaits you inside

The name of the inn is derived from the grand stairway which is housed in a round turret with stained and leaded glass panels and jewel-like embellishments.

This grand lady of the Victorian period possesses a beautifully restored interior with unique oak, maple, fir and pine woodwork.

Common Area
Grand Stairway

One of the many exciting features is the den with its dark pine wood beamed ceiling and framed in rattan wainscoting, focusing on the grand fireplace of rocks and bark with pine framed top.

Belfast is an Architectural Treasure

Situated along beautiful Penobscot Bay, mid-coast Maine. Settled in 1770, the town's past prosperity in fishing, shipbuilding, commerce and industry has left a legacy of fine Greek and Gothic revivals, Italianates, Capes, Mansards and Queen Annes. The historic district is huge, and spans from the beautiful tree-lined residential area, to our historically intact Main Street commercial district overlooking the harbor; including the City Park on 15 acres facing the bay.

Just down the hill from the inn are Belfast's intriguing shops, cozy restaurants and coffee houses, all tucked into the fine nineteenth-century brick buildings that march up from the waterfront.

There's lots to do nearby, too, thanks to scenic cruises, golf, tennis, art galleries, a cornucopia of antique shops, acclaimed summer theatre, concerts, festivals, lobster picnics, train excursions, museums and great places to hike and swim.

Explore as much as you'd like, or just spend time relaxing in the parlors or on our shady verandas.

Belfast Festivals

During the summer and autumn, festivals are scheduled for just about every weekend, and many during the week. In July, we have Arts In The Park, Belfast Garden Tour, and Maine Celtic Celebration July 18-20, 2008. Don't miss the beautiful fall foliage on the coast, come to the Church Street Festival the first weekend of October. The foliage season on the coast is absolutely gorgeous through October and so is the weather! We also have Belfast's Old Fashioned Christmas early December, and New Years By The Bay December 31st.

We're at the heart of mid-coast Maine

Nestled on the shores of beautiful Penobscot Bay, Belfast is perfectly located for day trips up and down the coast. You'll find windjammer cruises, ferry boat rides, a maritime museum and four state parks all within an easy drive. Camden is only twenty minutes away, and it's just over an hour to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The innkeepers are lighthouse aficionados, if you enjoy searching out new lighthouses there are numerous ones in the area. Just ask the innkeepers to point you in the right direction. Let us plan your day excursions while you enjoy your stay at The Jeweled Turret Inn.
