at Southwest Harbor...on Mount Desert Island Since its beginnings as the first summer hotel on Mount Desert Island in the mid-1800's, The Island House has offered old-fashioned hospitality and a pleasant retreat for its many guests. We continue that tradition in our newly built B and B located in a quiet wooded settting nearby. The new Island House location has changed, however, the hospitality and hosts remain the same! Furnishings from Ann's and Charlie's childhood years in Southwest Harbor and Asia blend comfortably with the Maine simplicity of the house. There are two tastefully decorated guest rooms with a comfortable common room for dining and relaxation. The loft efficiency apartment, a popular honeymoon retreat, is spacious and bright. It is attached to the main house and has its own entrance with a sunny step-out balcony which looks out over the tall spruce and pine woods surrounding the Island House. There are two bedrooms to comfortably accomodate up to three persons. There is a full bath, an efficiency kitchen, a dining/living area with easy chairs for relaxation and reading, and cable TV. A picnic table and garden chairs under the evergreens offer a serene and quiet setting. Guests can partake in tasty, ample breakfasts of Swiss eggs, blueberry pancakes, and home-made Danish. For activity seekers, there is swimming, sailing biking andhiking closeby. A pleasant walk takes one to town or to the lobster wharves. Ann and Charlie know the island well and take pleasure in helping their guests plan outings to nearby Acadia National Park, only 5 minutes away by car.
Welcome to the Island House, where you come as guests and leave as friends.
