Introduction
The Stonington mail boat awaits you, for the trip to Isle au Haut, a 45-minute cruise through myriad pristine islands. Upon arrival at The Inn at Isle au Haut, innkeeper Diana Santospago greets you at the mail boat and settles you into your cozy room. Enjoy the simplicity and quiet, with elegant meals provided for you: home baked breads and desserts, carefully chosen fresh ingredients, and delicious cooking.
Located on the quiet eastern shore, the Inn is near the Acadia National Park entrance and the town landing, with commanding views of Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain and the surrounding islands. Acadia National Park offers 18 miles of hiking trails. Spend a leisurely day biking to Long Pond, the island's freshwater pond, for a dip, enjoy a picnic at Thunder Gulch, or settle in with a good book by the shore.
Our inn offers four guest bedrooms that are light and cheerful and simply furnished with iron beds, antique oak and colorful quilts. The three rooms on the second floor share a full bath. Bathrobes are provided. Rates: $300 - $375 per night per couple/2 night minimum.
A full breakfast is served, and may include blueberry streusel muffins with orange butter, and crab and spinach frittata from Diana's kitchen. Breads and desserts are homemade, baked daily.
Lunch
A delicious picnic lunch is packed for a day of biking or exploring - think tomato, basil pesto and fresh mozzarella sandwiches on homemade bread, chewy chocolate cookies, blueberry lemonade and fresh fruit. Guests are welcome to bring their own wine and cocktails.
Dinner
Dinner in the Ward Room features single entrée dinners such as fresh native seafood including Isle au Haut lobsters, prime cuts of beef, pork, and lamb as well as fresh poultry. The day's fare may include ripe brie with blackberry-orange glaze and toasted pecans; homemade lobster ravioli with tarragon cream sauce; broiled sea scallops with lemon butter; fresh asparagus; herbed tomatoes; and peach gingerbread upside-down cake with homemade cinnamon ice cream.
