8 ounces softened cream cheese
1/4 cup chopped dates
1/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted
8 tsp orange marmalade
2 loaves french bread, cut diagonally into 8, 1-inch slices
4 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp cinnamon
3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp powdered sugar
Stir together cream cheese, dates, pecans and orange marmalade.
Cut a horizontal pocket into the top crust of each bread slice. Spoon about 2 tsp of cream cheese mixture into each pocket.
Whisk together eggs, milk and cinnamon. Dip stuffed bread slices into egg wash, coating on all sides.
Melt butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Cook stuffed bread slices 2 minutes on each side or until golden. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with warm maple syrup.
