He was raised on this family farm and became a distinguished native son of Paris. King attended the commonschools, learned the printers' trade and became editor and owner of the Jeffersonia, a paper printed at Paris Hill. In 1839 he was appointed to a position in the Post Office Department in Washington , DC. Horatio King became Postmaster General under President Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln. He died in 1897.
