Introduction
We are located on a high, ocean front bluff with breathtaking views of Frenchman's Bay, the mountains of Acadia National Park and the lights of Bar Harbor. We are on the "quiet side" of the bay yet surrounded with all kinds of interesting sites and activities. Nearby you will find the Schoodic Peninsula branch of Acadia National Park with the stunning views along Park Loop Road and the crashing surf at Schoodic Point. You can take a vigorous hike up Schoodic Mountain or Black Mountain or a more sedate walk along the shore at Petit Manan wildlife refuge. There are nearby bike and kayak rentals and a variety of unique studios and galleries. You can visit the U.S. Bells foundry and gift shop, Lee Art Glass, the glassblowers at Gypsy Moose Glass Studio or the old fashioned Winter Harbor 5 & 10.
There are several golf courses in the area and half a dozen great places to eat within 15 minutes. And then, when you want to take in the sites of Bar Harbor or go whale watching, it is a scenic 30 mile drive away. Campobello Island, Roosevelt's summer home is an easy daytrip as is all of Downeast Maine and parts of coastal New Brunswick and the Bay of Fundy.
You will find the Acadia View Bed & Breakfast to be a warm and friendly place to stay offering casual elegance in comfortable surroundings. There are four tastefully decorated guestrooms, each with its own private bathroom. Two guestrooms have full baths and two offer large tiled showers. All rooms have decks from which to take in the spectacular views, watch for the bald eagles, enjoy a radiant sunset or listen for the loon's haunting calls. There is a large comfortable great room with a fireplace overlooking the ocean and a winding path down to the shoreline. You will wake up to a full breakfast where you can spread out your map to plan a hike or maybe look out to the hammock where you might spend several hours with a good book. There is no rush here, you are in Maine.
If you are making your first visit to the area or your five-hundredth, you will find Acadia View to be a great place to call home. We are located on Coastal Rt. 1, one of the most scenic roads in America (formally designated a National Scenic Byway along Frenchman's Bay), and we are right in the heart of "Downeast Maine". Your hosts are Jim and Pat Close who want to make sure that your visit is special and that you will leave knowing why Maine's slogan is:
