Here on the perimeter of Washington are some of the country's most prosperous and sophisticated suburban communities where visitors enjoy many of the attributes and amenities of the city, including fine dining, lodging and cultural attractions.

A surprisingly short distance away visitors encounter winding rural roads, country villages and rich farmlands. Among attractions of note in the greater Capital Region are: New Market, an 18th-century community that calls itself the Antiques Capital of Maryland; the C&O Canal Museum at Great Falls; the only Mormon Temple east of the Mississippi River; Largo's Adventure World, an exciting theme park, and Frederick County's historic communities.
