Introduction
Marquis Manor of Crisfield boasts a long history of hospitality. Started in 1898 and completed in 1906 by the Tawes Brothers, they set about making their fortunes in the international seafood industry. Marquis Manor's subsequent owner, Adeline Hill, inherited the estate some time in the 1930's. She was loved by all and active in the local church and school board. Her ghost is said to remain, as the aroma of her famous butter cookies, periodically permeates the estate for no apparent reason.
Exactly 100 years later, in 2006, the present owners, David and Carolyn Marquis began their labor of love to restore the property. The pocket doors, hidden stairway, stained glass, ornate woodwork, cistern and dairy hutch remain as visual time capsules. Many shops and restaurants are in walking distance, with a boutique public library on the back of the 2.5 acre property. We offer bikes free to our guests, and kayaks or scooters for a small rental fee. Charter fishing, crabbing with Carolyn, biking along paths less traveled, or visiting the art gallery should be something to consider during your stay with us.
