Introduction
The Mansion House is an historic waterfront planter's residence located in the village of Public Landing. The property overlooks a broad expanse of Chincoteague Bay with Assateague Island in the distance. Built around 1835 by landowner and judge Ara Spence, this four-part stepped house with c. 1850 2-story, center hall addition and 2-story porch was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the Maryland National Trust.
The Mansion House has been carefully restored to its original charm and beauty. We invite our guests to socialize in the great room, curl up with good book in the parlor, or simply relax on one of our spacious porches. Wake up to a spectacular sunrise over the Chincoteague Bay or enjoy a moonlight stroll along the waterfront. Experience the romance of the sea anytime of the year.
Early risers can grab a cup of the inn's custom blend of Costa Rican coffee before breakfast and stroll down the lawn to sit at the water's edge. This is the perfect time to relax and make your plans for the day. Our hearty breakfasts include an offering of fresh fruit, home baked breads and pastries, juices, coffee, tea and the innkeepers' favorite hot entrees. Our kitchen garden is filled with fresh herbs and our fruit orchards abound with raspberries, blackberries, plums, cherries, peaches and apples. Carol is a blue ribbon baker and chef, who loves to cook. Some of her specialties include custard cornbread, roasted red pepper and goat cheese frittata, and plum tart. George bakes fresh basil Italian bread for his signature orange cinnamon French toast; he also likes to cook a big Southern breakfast. We offer an extensive repertoire of creative dishes. No one leaves our table hungry.
