Since colonial time, the agriculture foundation of this area has changed. Many private schools and colleges now dominate the valley. Our convenient location provides excellent lodging for visits to the five college area, quick get-aways into southern Vermont and New Hampshire or exploring the splendid back-road sights. It is an area that is extraordinary for its diversity. A place of contrast, both rural and sophisticated – with famous country fairs, auctions and antique shops as well as stimulating cultural events. An area rich in panoramic views. Welcome!
Deerfield’s Yellow Gabled House is located in a historically and culturally rich area. Early American Colonists settled this area in 1660. They experienced much conflict with the native population of Pocumtuck, Mohawk, and Iroquois Indians. Among the most famous of these conflicts were the 1675 Bloody Massacre and the Deerfield Massacre of 1704. The Yellow Gabled House is located at the site of the Bloody Brook Massacre. Just down the road from Historic Deerfield, its visitors can share the early American settler’s enthusiasm for colonial culture and lifestyle.
