Whately is a town in Franklin County, Massachusetts. Whately's three by six-mile area covers some of the most fertile Connecticut Valley land in New England, and is one of the few areas where the finest textured, truest flavored Sumatra tobacco could be grown north of Indonesia. Whately's main street, Chestnut Plain Road, is lined with historic buildings such as the Town Hall and the Congregational Church, as well as many historic houses. With its large trees set back from the road, it is said to be one of the finest main streets in New England. The Whately Historical Society and Historical Commission are both active in town, with public events in the spring and fall. Situated on a lovely tree-lined street in the heart of Whately, the Whately Inn offers fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. The Inn is open year-round, and there is no shortage of things to do in the area. The Whately Inn also offers catering and a function room. Winter boasts spectacular skiing, in the fall the blazing colors of autumn foliage are a delight, and summer offers theater, outdoor concerts and country fairs. These year-round events are all the reason you need to book a room as soon as possible at a Whately bed and breakfast or Whately inn. One example of the many fine Whately B&B establishments is The Country Cape Bed and Breakfast. Here you can enjoy the open fields from the deck or brick patio where you may catch a glimpse of wild turkeys and deer that sometimes meander down from the surrounding hills. Pasta E Basta, located seven miles from Whately, serves traditional and contemporary Italian cuisine. Mulinos Trattoria, located nine miles from Whately, is known for its "Large portions of robust hearty Italian food in a warm atmosphere."
