Introduction
The Sugar Maple Trailside Inn is a recently restored 1865 Colonial home, originally built by Florence Sewing Company to house supervisory employees. It was awarded the coveted Historic Preservation Award by the City of Northampton in the spring of 2003 and HGTV has filmed a segment of their acclaimed "Restore America" series about this Inn.
The Inn is located in Florence, Massachusetts approximately 2.5 miles west of downtown Northampton.
Renovated to offer modern comforts, air conditioned guest bedrooms feature wireless broadband Internet connections for some, free dial-up for others, quiet surroundings, antique furnishings, large closets and pleasant views.
The inn also boasts one of the region's largest collection of antique railroad maps, documents and history books. Peruse the vast library and relax on the three-season porch--or on our newly installed Goshen-stone patio that faces the adjacent rail-trail.
If you are coming to our beautiful valley, to bike, to visit the many museums or other cultural or shopping venues, plan to stay at our inn...
If you come during the good weather months, you will be able to peruse our extensive historic perennial gardens, recently rebuilt and designed with flowering plants common to the mid nineteenth century. It is worth the visit and the fragrances will leave you relaxed and refreshed.
An extensive trail network starts adjacent to the B&B. Northampton is one of the best places in the U.S. to bike/hike or just saunter in one of the truly beautiful downtowns of America. Our community is widely known as a destination for arts, theater and galleries. In fact it is said that there are more upscale restaurants in Northampton, than any other city between New York and Montreal.
The Sugar Maple Trailside Inn has two guest rooms, the Haydenville Room and the Cedar Hill Room, both with a view of the rail trail and both on the second floor. The rooms have private bathrooms with showers as well as antique furnishings.
Breakfast: We serve piping hot coffee and tea as well as a choice of various fresh juices. Fresh baked bagels, muffins, a choice of cereals and seasonal fruit round out your start to the day.
