Our home, Purple Gables, first appears on the town map in 1826 when two small cottages were cobbled together. Additions have accrued through the years shaping our eclectic home into the cozy haven it is today. For many years, students from all over the world have lived with us, each bringing new ideas, new foods, and new memories. They often proudly return with a spouse and children to revisit the time that they spent here. We cherish those visits. Recently, the suite has undergone renovation and redecorating and is available to you for making your own special memories as our bed & breakfast guests. Purple Gables provides an ideal, smoke-free setting for enjoying the beauty and culture of New England. The lush gardens showcase the best of each season. Enjoy the morning sun beneath the blooming dogwood during early May, sit shaded on the porch with a good book and frosty beverage in July, rustle through the leaves as you begin an autumn walk to town, or watch the dogs frolic in the new fallen winter's snow. This bed and breakfast suite has a private entrance, private full bathroom and a personalized breakfast. |
| As you enter Purple Gables Bed & Breakfast through your private porch entrance, you will find a spacious, sunny, private suite awaiting you. A Favrile glass fixture gently illuminates the charming dining area. The southern exposure bathes the gracious leisure room in sunlight. Its sofa bed, comfortable seating, and small library are designed for relaxation. A desk and chair provide the ideal location for dashing off a post card, planning your afternoon excursion, or working on your novel. The romantic sleeping area contains an inviting queen-sized, pillow-top bed enveloped in a floral quilt and pillows in your choice of firmness. An antique stained glass window enhances the private bath — outfitted with thick white towels, guest bathrobes, excellent vanity lighting, a hairdryer, and other touches to make it feel like home. Walking past the bathroom and through the back door you will find yourself on the back patio in the center of the gardens. An ever-changing palette showcases the innkeeper's love of flowers and her unique knack for botanical beauty. A small seating area on the upper terrace provides a private nook for meditation or repose. |

At Purple Gables you will enjoy the very best of the bed and breakfast experience. A gourmet breakfast is served each morning in your suite. The refrigerator is stocked with yogurt, granola, and other snacks. Additional amenities include microwave, coffee maker, hairdryer, clock/radio with iPod charger, wifi, cable TV, DVD, a bicycle, and an iron & ironing board. Your friendly innkeeper can guide you to a wide variety of activities and sights, as well as great museums, historic neighborhoods, and hidden views tucked here and there throughout Amherst and beyond.
Lynda’s breakfasts and brunches have become legend at 232 East Pleasant Street. Guests are treated to a parade of delicious dishes. Lynda takes particular delight in planning edible treats for family, friends, and guests. Celebrate each morning at the Purple Gables as your luscious breakfast is served in the sunny breakfast nook of your private suite. In the spring, the lilacs bloom just outside your window filling the air with their intoxicating scent. Please let us know if you have dietary restrictions.
