Newburyport, located in Merrimack County north of Boston on the Massachusetts coast, is a historic seaport. The New York Times named Newburyport the #2 destination in the northeast, so you won't be disappointed when you visit. Come in October for Newburyport's Fall Harvest Festival, which features craft vendors, live music and street performers. If you stay at a Newburyport B&B or Newburyport inn in July, you will be minutes from the excitement at the Riverfront Musical Festival. Off shore, nearby Plum Island is a popular destination, with miles of sandy beaches and a preserve featuring over 800 species of birds. After spending a day touring the island, you can relax in style at a nearby Newburyport bed and breakfast. Then drop by Inn Street, Newburyport's oldest street, which is home to numerous fine shops. When it's time for dinner you could opt for the Newburyport Rear Range Lighthouse. A bit pricey, but it's worth it to dine at the top of the lighthouse. Another possibility is Agave Mexican Restaurant, which features table side guacamole.
