Introduction
Muddy Brook Farm is located within minutes of Mount Holyoke College and South Hadley Town Common, a short drive to Hampshire and Amherst Colleges, the University of Massachusetts and the city of Springfield, and convenient to Smith College and the Northampton area.
Visit museums, summer theater, concerts (Musicorda), shops and restaurants, or browse antique shops and book stores, pick fruit, pumpkins or cut Christmas trees all within the Pioneer Valley.
Muddy Brook Farm is a pre-Revolutionary colonial homestead built c. 1765 by the Warner family on land granted by the king. It has been the site of an 18th-century Indian raid with a hatchet mark on one of the old exterior doors. In the 18th and 19th centuries the farm grew hemp for rope-making. Captain Eli Warner designed and sold butter churns. In the late 19th century, President McKinley dined with the Warner family. The farm is situated on 10 acres surrounded by fields, woods, and wetlands for walks or cross-country skiing. Updated in the 19th century, it retains the charm and original details of earlier days.
Enjoy casual comfort and the quiet surroundings of our colonial farm, the beautiful view and watch the sunrise (if you're willing) or the moonrise over the fields and hills. The Harvest Moon is spectacular in the fall. Relax and enjoy the gardens and the view after your journey or day in town.
We offer a full breakfast which includes traditional bacon and eggs made to order; homemade muffins, scones, breads, and jams; pancakes with organically grown blueberries, raspberries, and other fruits in season served with local pure maple syrup. Special requests are happily honored with sufficient notice. Guests may have their breakfast in the dining room. . . or in bed!
