Lexington, Massachusetts - The Birthplace of American Liberty

Located 11 miles northwest of Boston, Lexington is famous for "the shot heard 'round the world" that began the American Revolution on the Battle Green. The annual Patriots' Day celebration commemorating the Battle of Lexington and the historic events of April 19, 1775 provides a window on history with the re-enactment of Paul Revere's ride and the Lexington Minute Men confrontation with the British. Year-round, visitors can enjoy historic sites and attractions such as the Battle Green, National Heritage Museum and Minute Man National Historical Park as well as three Colonial homes open seasonally.

First settled in 1642, Lexington has grown to encompass 16.64 square miles with a population just over 30,000. Lexington prides itself on its important place in American history, the beauty of town land, and the excellence of its public school system. The Town has numerous parks, conservation lands, museums and libraries that provide exceptional opportunities for recreational and cultural activities. The Town's physical location allows easy access to Boston, the Atlantic Ocean, the White Mountains and many important historical sites in the State.
