Edgartown is located on the eastern end of Martha's Vineyard, an island off of Cape Cod. A busy whaling port in the 1800s, the town has many examples of well-maintained Greek Revival homes, some of which are wonderful B&Bs. If you book a room in an Edgartwn B&B or inn in July, you can partake of the annual Edgartown Regatta, which is now in its 85th year and is held at the Edgartown Yacht Club. If you visit in September, you can watch the Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby, which Edgartown has hosted for more than 60 years. This event has become the East Coast's largest fishing derby. There is a wide variety of recreational activities, but the favorites here are swimming, sunning, boating, and gallery-hopping. After a day at the beach or in town, rest up at an Edgartown bed and breakfast, and then head out for dinner. There are several good dining spots to pick from. L'Etoile Restaurant is known for dishes composed of bold, fresh, seasonal ingredients and has an elegant indoor dining room as well as a lovely terrace for warm weather dining. David Ryan's Restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Edgartown, right at the Edgartown harbor, and serves a wide choice of local seafood, creative pasta entrees, and top-quality meats in addition to delicious sandwiches and hamburgers.
