| Introduction |

The Davenport House Bed & Breakfast, built in 1912, is registered with the Massachusetts Historical Commission and is one of only a few examples of Jacobethan architecture located within the city of New Bedford. New Bedford is 35 miles east of the beautiful beaches and legendary mansions of Newport, and the city of Providence, and 55 miles south of Boston, the capital/hub of Massachusetts. New Bedford is deemed by many tourists traveling throughout the area as the "Gateway to the Cape." |

| The front parlor features unique build-out windows providing extra space for seating whether you choose to read, socialize with other guests, or listen to music played on the antique upright piano. This spacious room offers one of the three working fireplaces on the first floor. The other two fireplaces are located in the adjacent family room and the grand foyer area. |

A large mahogany piazza wraps around the rear and south side of the Davenport House overlooking a beautiful and spacious garden with a variety of unique trees and colorful bushes. There are multiple sitting areas to enjoy within this garden. The front porch, which greets every guest as they enter the Davenport House, and the second floor piazza are available for sitting, reading or socializing as time and interest permits. There are two off-street parking spaces available for guests.

A continental breakfast featuring items reflective of the area's Cape Verdean, Portuguese, African American and Latino cultures is served in comfort and elegance in the formal dining room. The dining table is set with formal dinnerware every morning. Breakfast includes coffee/tea, juice(s), fruit, cereal and fresh baked muffins/breads/coffee cakes. |
The Downtown Historic District has been designated as a National Historical Park. The Mayor's Office and dedicated organizations throughout the City continually strive to recreate and expand the greater downtown area to reflect the historic appearance and ambiance of the whaling era.

Guests are able to ride the ferry from New Bedford to Martha's Vineyard during the months of May to September or drive 42 miles east to Falmouth and take the ferry to either Nantucket Island or Martha's Vineyard Island.

New Bedford's parks of interest include Fort Taber Family Park and the Buttonwood Park & Zoo. The movie, Passionada, filmed in the City of New Bedford by Samuel Goldwyn Films & Fireworks Pictures, is the first of its kind to feature the Portuguese-American family. Captured within this movie are many beautiful and historical sites of the City of New Bedford and the surrounding towns of Fairhaven and Dartmouth.
