Introduction
Circa 1792
Take the winding shore drive... only minutes from a beautiful private beach, with beautiful mansions. Called the Gold Coast along this section of the Atlantic Ocean. These mansions were originally summer homes for the elite Bostonians in the early 20th century.
Off the beach is a lovely island, called "Misery Island." A sailor's yacht got into trouble and he was stuck on this island for three miserable days. It is now conservation land and a ferry runs in the summer from "Manchester-by-the-Sea."
The Inn is at the beginning of Cape Ann... a beautiful stretch of coastline which is less traveled than the other Cape (Cod). At the tip of Cape Ann is Rockport... a very quaint village. In its past it was a fishing village, but now it's more of an artist's delight... very picturesque!
The Inn is 1/2 mile from local colleges and convenient to Cape Ann, Salem and Boston. Walking distance to town, train and private beach.
Essex is a short country drive with some of the best seafood restaurants and antique shops. The fried clam was born there. You can travel the Essex River and see them harvesting the clams when the tide is low.
