The Town of Barre is a small rural community located roughly 60 miles from Boston, and is almost right in the center of the state. A charming and convenient place to stay while on vacation is a Barre bed and breakfast. Barre has its fare share of history. During the Industrial Revolution, Barre became known for its production of farming equipment and palm leaf hats. Today, the rural aspect of Barre is still a big drawn for tourists. Wachusett Meadow has several miles of trails including an 80-acre pond rich with beaver, mink, otter, wood ducks, and herons. Visitors also enjoy the Barre Falls Dam for many outdoor activities including canoing, picnicking, hunting, fishing, hiking, horseshoes, sightseeing, mountain bike riding, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, 18-hole disc golf, and wildlife observation. For organic food lovers, Babcia’s Farm (pronounce Bop-chee's) is located on the Quabbin watershed along the borders of Barre, Hardwick and Petersham. It offers meat, chickens, heritage breed turkeys, ducks, eggs, vegetables and raw honey. Places to dine are abundant, too. While staying at a Barre B&B many head to the Picasso Restaurant and Bar for great food at reasonable prices. They have large portions that are almost too big to finish. Their salads can easily feed two as an appetizer before dinner. Be sure and check out a comfortable Barre inn if you’re looking for a place to relax after a long day of sight-seeing!
