Introduction
The Baird Tavern Bed and Breakfast invites you to step back in time and share the colorful, romantic history of a magnificent pre-Revolutionary home built in 1768 by James Baird and used as a tavern for the first fifty years of its existence.
Let the fireplaces, beehive ovens, paneled walls, chestnut beams and wide pine flooring provide a backdrop for your journey.
The Baird Tavern often entertained forty to fifty teams a night where weary travelers ate and drank in the taproom and then slept feet to the fire, heads resting on their buffalo robes. In the kitchen or keeping room with its huge fireplace the women bustled around cooking and tending little ones. Babies were birthed in the borning room just off the kitchen.
Early in the 19th century the house was purchased by the Bartholomew family who owned it for eighty years. During that time it was a stagecoach stop and legend says the former Baird Tavern was part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. At the end of the 19th century Dr. William Ashley used the house with its clear mountaintop air as a restorative retreat for his patients. Today the inn retains its 18th and 19th century authenticity.
Be part of the ongoing history at the Baird Tavern Bed and Breakfast. Ghosts of the past are calling you - partake of an extraordinarily magical experience at this treasure of Americana.

Extensive perennial gardens surround the house with ever changing colors-from the thousands of brightly lit daffodils that appear in April to the rich hues of New England asters in October.
There are native high bush blueberries, apples, cherries and pears. A never-ending cast of characters visit the grounds almost daily -- raccoons, red-tailed squirrels, fox, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and even the occasional black bear can be spotted from the kitchen window!
A birdwatcher's paradise, guests can enjoy year round birding as they watch hummingbirds, cardinals, downy woodpeckers, titmice, chickadees, rose breasted and evening grosbeaks.
Rolling hills, fields and farmland, and old fashioned stonewalls dot the landscape, making this western Massachusetts hamlet a scenic paradise. Situated on a mountaintop in the Berkshire foothills, Blandford is home to the Cobble Mountain Reservoir. Within its 49 square miles, opportunities abound for year round outdoor activities: hiking, biking, swimming, golfing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Perhaps the most memorable highlight of your stay at Baird Tavern is breakfast. Meet your fellow travelers for stimulating conversation over the full, farm style country breakfast, beginning with freshly ground coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Carolyn, your host and a gourmet caterer, is always ready to prepare such delectable treats as: blueberry pancakes made with the Baird Tavern's own wild high bush blueberries, country style bacon, local sausage, omelets with cheddar, avocado and salsa or goat cheese, artichokes and mushrooms. Low fat options include fresh fruit in season, Greek style yogurt prepared with apples, almonds, and a drizzle of honey, Irish steelcut oatmeal, dry cereals, toast, muffins, and bagels.
Breakfast is served in the original kitchen of the house that features a cavernous fireplace once used to prepare meals for hungry travelers. Guests can also choose to dine in the tavern's original summer kitchen, built in 1810. Birdfeeders placed at windows on both sides of the kitchen provide an endless source of entertainment during breakfast.
Carolyn, a former teacher, is the owner of Taylor Made Catering, a gourmet catering business, so breakfasts are outstanding! She has been sharing her historic home with bed and breakfast guests for the past fourteen years.
