Introduction
The Apple Tree Inn perches on a twenty-two acre hilltop estate in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. The main house dates from 1885 and has had several additions over the years.
Prior to 1976 when it became the last and best known Alice's Restaurant, it was operated for many years as an inn called Avaloch. In 1979, Alice Brock and Arlo Guthrie gave up the business and in 1983 it became The Apple Tree Inn. Its location across the road from Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, makes it especially attractive to music lovers.
The circular dining room affords year round panoramic views of the mountains and exceptional seasonal views. Many of the rooms have equally beautiful views. The Inn has a heated outdoor swimming pool that has the best view in the Berkshires. On warm summer afternoons, while relaxing at poolside, it is often possible to listen to the performance at Tanglewood being carried on southerly breezes. The inn also has a clay tennis court which is available for guests only and there are several trails that are suitable for short walks.
A complimentary continental breakfast is served to house guests daily. Hot breakfast is available a la carte on weekends throughout the year and daily in July and August. Our restaurant is now closed with the exception of breakfast for houseguests and private parties. The restaurant is available for private parties throughout the year.
